Zachary "Zack" Hamilton Smith, 77 of Grants Pass passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at his home in Grants Pass, Oregon A memorial service and luncheon will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 24th at the family home: 4721 Upper River Road, Grants Pass. (Everyone is invited to attend) Condolences may be sent to the family at 4721 Upper River Road, Grants Pass, OR 97526. Zack was born on August 6, 1929 in Coalinga, California to Zachary and Catherine Smith. Zack served in the United States Army in Korea as a tank mechanic. He worked as a heavy duty diesel repair mechanic in Coalinga for Standard Oil Company, Union Oil Company and then for Blair Iron Works. Early in the 1960̢۪s he started Zack̢۪s Diesel Repair in Coalinga; he operated the business until his retirement in 1996. Zack married Nicole Alexis on May 31, 1986 in Coalinga, California. In 1991 they purchased a home and moved to Grants Pass. Zack was a past member of the Elks Lodge #1613 in Coalinga. He loved spending time with family & friends, riding motorcycles, restoring tractors and farm equipment. Zack was a successful cattleman, horseman and rancher. Survivors include his wife Nicole Smith of Grants Pass; Son, Steven Smith of Palmdale, CA; Daughter, Jana George of Bakersfield, CA; Step-Daughter, Andrea Oliver of Fresno, California; Step-Son, Bob Frank of Grants Pass, OR; Sister, Alice Stanley of Grand Junction, CO; Sister, Catherine Jean Bruner of Thermopolis, WY; And Six Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife Janice Smith; Step-daughter, Cherie M. Alexis; Two brothers, Martin and Johnny Aldabe and his sister Marie Bergen
