Winifred E. Thompson

Winifred E. Thompson, 91, of Grants Pass died Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at Maureen's Adult Foster Care in Grants Pass. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stephens Family Chapel. A funeral service will be held in Southern California. Interment will be at Melrose Abbey Cemetery in Anaheim, Calif. One of nine children, she was born April 25, 1919, in Deer River, Minn., to Jacob and Lydia Jacobson. On June 18, 1939, in Iowa, she married Arvel Thompson, who died April 13, 1973. For 28 years, she worked for See's Candies in Los Angeles, Anaheim and Huntington Beach, Calif. She retired in 1984. In 2008, she moved to Grants Pass from San Marcos, Calif. She was a member of San Marcos Lutheran Church and she attended Edgewater Christian Fellowship. She enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles and crafts. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Phelps of San Marcos, Calif., and Susan Bennett of Grants Pass; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
