William Charles Vincent

William Charles Vincent, 71, of Grants Pass passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at his home following a battle with bone cancer. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 4th, 1 pm at Stephens Family Chapel, Pastor Glen Litwiller of Edge Water Christian Fellowship will officiate. His ashes are to be buried and/or scattered in the Davis Creek cemetery in California as well as nearby Fandango Valley and Cedarville. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions: Rogue Valley Young Marines: 345 Merlin Road, Merlin, Oregon 97532 or Asante Hospice: 2825 East Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504 He was born February 24, 1937, in Oroville, CA, to Orval "Roy" and Dorothy (Vermillion) Vincent and was raised in Willows, Cedarville and Redding, CA. He graduated from Shasta Union High School in Redding, CA, in 1955. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps 1955-1959, serving in Okinawa and Barstow, CA. He began working summers with the U.S. Forest Service on the Shasta Trinity National Forest while still in high school and again after serving in the Marine Corps. On January 26, 1963, he married Diane Louise Caldwell at the First Methodist Church in Van Nuys, CA. They lived in Redding and later spent ten years in the San Fernando Valley of California. In 1974 they moved to Modoc County, CA, living in Alturas and New Pine Creek. In 1977 they moved to Grants Pass. He was an electrician for 40 years, retiring in 1999. He loved guns and hunting, collectibles, antiques, and flea marketing. He was a member of the Josephine County Sportsman̢۪s Association and NRA and former member of the San Fernando Valley Varmint Callers Association and Single Action Shooters Society. Bill is survived by his wife Diane, daughters and sons-in-law; Gena Vincent of Grants Pass, Lisa and Doug Stewart of Corvallis, and Janis and Tim Sanford of Wilsonville. He leaves four much-loved grandchildren, Jake and Megan Stewart and Keenan and Keely Sanford. He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy Whitby of Grants Pass, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
