W. G. Curly Lewis

W.G. Curly Lewis, 75 passed away 6/1/2008 at his home after a short illness. Curly was born in Harrah, Oklahoma, on 8/21/1932. In 1949 he relocated to Ventura, CA. In 1951, he joined the USAF and while serving in Texas he met and married Carol Briggs -they later divorced. After returning to California, he owned and operated a full service construction company. A life long friendship was developed with Johnny Cash after Curly built Johnny's home in Casitas Springs, CA. In 1965 Curly moved his family to GP where he and Carol started Lewis Realty. Curly continued as a Real Estate Broker/ Developer until his retirement in 2003. Curly had a 45-year involvement in breeding, raising, and racing Quarter horses. His most successful horse, Scott Lewis, named for a grandson, won many races at Los Alamitos racecourse. He held the Los Alamitos track record in the 550-yard distance for 25 years and had a stakes race named in his honor. Curly is survived by his three children, Ivan Lewis of Azalea, Wade Lewis of Grants Pass, and Tracy Pinkerton of Redmond and his 10 Grandchildren. Services will be held at a later date
