Virginia Rose Leach Dickey Edwards was an extraordinary woman, admired and loved by all. Her dynamic work ethic and sense of fun brought joy to all who knew her. Her motto was "Happiness is a choice", and she chose to be completely happy. Born on February 2, 1928 in Merriam Kansas, she passed away peacefully on December 1, 2018 at home in Cave Junction Oregon in her "little cabin in the sky" surrounded by love.
She cherished the memory of her childhood in Kansas City with her parents, Phillip King and Bertha. Gentle and kind, they were her heroes. Beautiful and brilliant, her brothers and sisters, Eugene, Eileen, Dorothy, Leona, Floyd and Eve were her inspirations.
The first of her generation to attend college, she was also an early member of the first women's semi-professional basketball league. Her mother once told her that she would have to choose between being a professional athlete and being a lady. In dance she found the best of both worlds.
She was one of the founders, along with her husband, Leigh, of the Fred Astaire Dance chain which swept the nation. She judged ballroom competitions at the national level throughout her 67 years as an owner and manager and helped to codify the rules of dance. A woman of principles and convictions, she was dedicated to the power of positive thinking and uplifted everyone she met with her belief that we can achieve our goals and consciously improve our lives.
She is survived by daughters India Moss and husband Allan Fabrick, Kimberly Key and partner Daniel Collins, daughter-in-law Susan King, grandchildren - Chris, Tasha and husband Damon, Tyler, Angelica, Lee and wife Lauren, Marie, Christian, Kimberly, India and husband Alex, great grandchildren - Robert, Joshua, Mathew, Astara Rose, James and Mikey, and an extended family of loved ones and friends. Our "GeGe" will be dearly missed.
