Vera Pauline McGowan, 92, of Rogue River died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at Three Rivers Community Hospital. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Stephens Family Chapel. A graveside service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A celebration of life will follow at 2 p.m. at Hope Presbyterian Church in Rogue River. McGowan was born May 8, 1918, in Jasper, Mo., to Roscoe and Bessie Lilly. She married Charles Raymond McGowan, who died in 1973. She worked as an accountant. In 1993, she moved from Blythe, Calif., to Rogue River. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Sorority, Hope Presbyterian Church and the Rogue River Community Center. She enjoyed dancing, traveling and being the dessert maker for the Rogue River Community Center for 15 years. Survivors include two sons, Raymond McGowan of Rogue River and Robert McGowan of Gold Hill; a daughter, Virginia Brent of Prairie Grove, Ark.; two sisters, Ellene Taylor of Grants Pass and Bertie Moschetti of Wells, Nev.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
