Thomas Hardie

Thomas Matthew Hardie, 95, of Grants Pass died Aug. 16, 2010, at his home. No services will be held. He was born Jan. 10, 1915, in Cambria Pines, Calif., to Alexander and Nellie Hardie. For 26 years, he was married to Frances Marie Gillespie, who died in 1961. They moved to Lakeview in December 1941 and then to Murphy in the summer of 1945. For 47 years, he was married to his second wife, Ruth Gobel, who died in July 2009. He worked for Dierks Sawmill in Murphy for many years and then owned Tom's Detail Shop in Grants Pass for several years. He retired at age 60 and enjoyed gold panning and fishing with his wife. Survivors include a daughter, Linda M. Hardie of Portland; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A son, Thomas M. Hardie Jr., died before him.
