Sue Ann Twist-Powell aka "Suzy" December 07, 1946 - December 2, 2015 Sue Ann Twist-Powell was born December 7, 1946 in Long Beach, California to Newell Remington Twist and Margaret Louise Twist. Suzy attended grammar school at Barranca Elementary in Covina, Eva D. Edwards Jr. High School and Covina High School graduating in June, 1964. She met her first husband, Frederick Lee Bates during her installation as a debutante with the Las Damas Debutante Society where he escorted her on her debut evening with her father. They were married on October 22, 1966. Fred and Suzy were married for 17 years. They have two sons, Steven Randall Bates and Kevin Tyler Bates; both are married and have beautiful families. Suzy finished her A.S. degree at Mt. San Antonio Community College in 1974 and her B.S. degree from Cal Poly, Pomona in 1976. She continued her education at Cal State Fullerton. Suzy secured her insurance license in the 1980's and began her 36 year career as an insurance professional. In 1999 Suzy and Gregory William Powell met at a party at a good friend's home. They were married in Merlin OR, standing in the waters of the Rogue River, by her son, Kevin on September 19, 2004. They moved to Grants Pass, south of town along the beautiful Applegate River on January 21, 2005. They have 2 acres on a hill side overlooking the river, where Suzy created her English garden, rose gardens, vegetable gardens, fruit trees and more. Suzy joined the Grants Pass Garden Club immediately and became very active in their activities. She became a proficient floral design competitor. She was honored in 2011 with the Cover position on a publication produced by the National Garden Clubs, Inc. "Vision of Beauty" calendar. She became an OSFGC Accredited Floral Judge in 2012. She is the director of a design group by the name of Rogue Arrangers; she is the State Credentials/Flower Show School/Symposium Chair-person, Vice President of the Siskiyou Judges Council and the Siskiyou District Assistant Director. She is a two-term past president of the Rogue Valley Rose Society. Suzy is also an active member of P.E.O. Chapter DC a Christian Women's organization who raises monies to scholarship young women during their college careers. Suzy and Greg attended Redwood Christian Church where she was baptized on October 28, 2012. Suzy is survived by her husband Greg Powell and her two sons Randy and Kevin along with their families.
