Stanley John Skarbek, 86, died on 6/4/2013. He had a small fall in his house in such a way that he neck was broken. He was on life support immediately but 12 hours later he passed. He was healthy and walked a couple miles around Grants Pass, Oregon most days, even on days when he needed his walker. Everyone around town recognized his black western hat in the winter and his white western hat in the summer. He had a very upbeat, optimistic character, a friendly demeanor and always enjoyed making conversation. Stanley was born in Poland but came with his family to New York when he was three. He was raised near Buffalo, New York. He was a veteran of World War 2, serving in the merchant marines. When he was out of the service he moved to Encinitas, CA where he was married and raised two sons. In 1999 he moved to Grants Pass, Oregon with his wife to retire. Stanley is survived by his wife, Mary Louise, Two sons, Robert Leroy and Stanley Frank; 5 grandchildren, Daniel, Brian, Jason, David and Katheryn; and 1 great grandchild, Katelyn; and one sister, Eleanor.
