Sonya Smashey

Masona “Sonya” Sanderson Smashey, 93, of Merlin passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. A Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM â€" 12:00 PM on Tuesday December 23rd, with Funeral Services at 1:00 PM at Park View Funeral Home in Manteca, California. Interment will follow at Park View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Josephine County Humane Society, 429 NW Scenic Drive, Grants Pass, Oregon 97526 or Josephine County Library, PO Box 1684, Grants Pass, Oregon 97528 Sonya was born on May 9, 1915 in Corley, Arkansas to Hamilton and Emma Sanderson. She married Floyd B. Smashey on October 27, 1963 in Reno, Nevada. In 1996 they moved from Stockton, California to Merlin, Oregon. Sonya enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, raising cats and gardening. In addition to her husband survivors include three daughters, Leonda Ferris and Sandra Woods Peck of Grants Pass and Louise McDonald of Poteau, Oklahoma; Fifteen grandchildren, Twenty-Eight Great Grandchildren and Three Great Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by three children: Sons, John W. Woods and Gerald L. Woods; Daughter, Wanda J. Delgado and one Granddaughter, Rachelle Delgado Lagorio.
