Seymour âSyâ Slutsky, 84, of Grants Pass died Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Autumn House in Grants Pass. Memorial Celebration of Life: Sunday May 3, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at Autumn House, 2268 Williams HWY, Grants Pass. Contributions: Alzheimer's Association National Office 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 Sy was born on January 24, 1925 in New York, NY to Nathan and Frances Slutsky. He served in the United States Army from 1943 until his Honorable Discharge in 1946. On June 11, 1948 in New York he married Sara Wakshull who survives. In 1953 Sy and his family moved to Los Angeles, California where he worked as an elementary school teacher. Later he changed careers to work with his brother-in-law in the insurance field. Sy and Sara moved to Grants Pass Thanksgiving 2004. Sy enjoyed sailing, photography, music, travel, stamp collecting and gardening. He also loved children and good food. In addition to his wife, survivors include son and daughter-in-law Jon Slutsky & Susan Moore of Colorado; Daughter Susi Beene of Merlin; Daughter and son-in-law Ellen & Lee McClure of Grants Pass; Sister, Leonie Hollander of Big Pine, CA; Four grandchildren: Dylan McClure, Luke Beene, Raisa Slutsky-Moore, Sydney Beene. Preceeded in death by his sister Sonya Gerlach.
