Roy Philip Brandt, 84, of Grants Pass died March 5, 2008, at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Private family services will be held. He was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Fond du Lac, Wis., to John and Martha Brandt. His family moved to Highland Park, Ill., where he graduated from Highland Park High School. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Forces from 1943 to 1945, when he was honorably discharged. He became a certified airplane mechanic and took flying lessons. Under the G.I. Bill, he entered Rensselaer Polytechnic Engineering College in Troy, New York, and graduated in 1951 with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He worked with the Federal Aviation Administration investigating accidents until his retirement. In 1987, he moved to Grants Pass. In 1996, he married Mabel Westling, who survives. They were members of the Grants Pass Duplicate Bridge Club. He was a fan of the Chicago Black Hawks hockey team. In addition to his wife, survivors include a sister, Ruth Kageorge of Atlanta; and several stepchildren and stepgrandchildren.
