Ronald Dean Shaw, 68, of Grants Pass passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at his home after a seven-month battle with cancer. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Missouri Flat Cemetery. The eldest of five children, he was born Nov. 11, 1942, in San Francisco to Leonard Donald Shaw and Olive Onita (Watson) Shaw. On May 6, 1964, in Reno, Nev., he married Donna Kitchen, who survives. He served four years in the Coast and Geodetic Survey-International Indian Ocean Expedition and two years in the Army. He then went to school to become a computer engineer and taught a computer engineering drafting course at California Academy of Drafting in San Jose, Calif. For 20 years, he traveled the country working as a contractor for various electronic companies. He retired in June 2008. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, kayaking, camping and golfing with his son, grandsons and other family members. He also enjoyed his dog, the Seattle Seahawks football team and quiet times with his daughters and helping them in any way he could. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Ronald M. Shaw of Grants Pass; three daughters, Wanda M. Hendley of Grants Pass, Melyn "Missy" L. Smith of Enterprise, Ala., and Alexandria "Shu Shu" Schneider of Gilroy, Calif.; his stepmother, Margaret Shaw of Shasta Lake, Calif.; three sisters, Barbara L. Stankey, Betty J. Kriser and Sandra J. Matthews; a brother, Leonard A. Shaw; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. An infant son, his mother, Olive Rondo, and his stepfather, Jack Rondo, died before him. His father died Feb. 18, 2011.
