Roger Walter Bowen, 73, of Grants Pass died Aug. 7, 2010, at his home. No services are planned. He was born Oct. 18, 1936, in Visalia, Calif., to Walter and Bertha Bowen. He served in the Coast Guard from 1953 to 1957, and was honorably discharged. On June 14, 1964, in Palo Alto, Calif., he married Judith Bevilockway, who survives. He earned his master's degree in computer science from Penn State University. From 1964 to 1986, he worked as a computer programmer for the U.S. Geological Survey. In 1993, he and his wife moved to Grants Pass from Virginia. He enjoyed motorcycles, woodworking, computers, computer games, traveling and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Peter Bowen of Leesburg, Va.; a daughter, Debby Bowen of Quebec, Canada; a sister, Laura Whitsitt of San Diego; four grandchildren.
