Robert "Rosie" Rosenberg, 71, of Selma died March 3, 2012, at his home. A celebration of life will be held Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Fruitdale Grange, with Nick Hall conducting. A potluck will follow. Stephens Family Chapel handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Northwest Unangax Culture Education Center in care of Rebecca Bendixen, 3440 Emma Road, Bellingham, WA 98226. He was born July 16, 1940, in Santa Rosa, Calif., to John and Helga (Salmela) Rosenberg. He attended Santa Rosa High School and earned early admittance into the Mare Island Apprenticeship Program in 1958. He completed his diploma and attended Santa Rosa Junior College and Solano Junior College. In 1958, he achieved Life Scout designation and was a member of the Campion Drill Team. On March 12, 1960, he married Larae Scheffler, who survives. They started their family in Santa Rosa and then moved to Sebastopol, Calif., in 1966 to raise their children. He was involved in his community and was a member of the Santa Rosa Optimists Club, the Boy Scouts, Mensa and the Redwood Empire Sheep Dog Association. He also helped several foster children and was named Foster Parent of the Year in 1973. After retiring as an electrical engineer test specialist at Mare Island in 1989, he and his wife moved to Selma, where he enjoyed ranching and working with his border collies. He was active in many local organizations and was a life member of the Illinois Valley Senior Center, the Fruitdale Grange, the Southern Oregon Amateur Radio Club (AD7LB) and outreach services for the Southern Oregon Indian Center. He enjoyed riding his tractor, working in his woodshop, fixing things, being involved in the HAM Club and Indian Center, participating in local auctions and encouraging his grandchildren to follow their hearts and pursue their dreams. In his younger years, he enjoyed cars and racing and was a member of the Cluster Buster Car Club. In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Sabrena Rosenberg of Rohnert Park, Calif., Robin Binkley of Selma, and Crystal Yee of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a son, John Rosenberg of Penn Valley, Calif.; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A sister, Doris Nord, died before him.
