Robert Russell Dewey, 90, of Grants Pass died Sept. 22, 2010, at Royale Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center. A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery. He was born Oct. 4, 1919, in Hemet, Calif., to Walter and Emma Dewey. On Nov. 14, 1942, in Las Vegas, he married Doris Black, who survives. They lived in Los Angeles and he worked for Douglas Aircraft Company. During World War II, he served in the Army. After being discharged in 1946, he returned to working for Douglas for one year. In 1947, he and his wife moved to Grants Pass. He worked in dairy products manufacturing and processing plants in Grants Pass and Medford for 35 years. He held a state license for pasteurization of milk and testing of products and was a licensed cheese maker and butter maker. He often won awards in annual statewide dairy industry competitions. He also was a graduate of Northwest Radio and Television School and he built and assembled the first television set his family owned. He was a past member of Josephine County Young Farmers and a retired member of Local Union 962. He also was a member of Newman United Methodist Church and the Knife and Fork Club. For many years, he enjoyed square dancing. In addition to his wife, survivors include two children, Jeanette Dewey of Grants Pass, and Larry Dewey of Portland; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A son, Robert W. Dewey, died in 2006.
