Phillip A. Nickel, 76 of Grants Pass, died 5/26/2014 at home of a heart attack. He was born in Deadwood, S. Dakota, moved to the Willamette Valley as a child. He married Ann Brown Person of Scottsdale, Arizona and they retired to Grants Pass nearly 20 years ago. Phil enjoyed writing and yardwork. He authored the book," My Nickel's Worth" and taught as a biology professor of Biological Sciences at California Universities. He served as a consultant to Los Robles Hospital in entomology. Ending his working career with the Ventura County in vector control. Survivors include a son, Mark Nickel of Tucson, AZ and a daughter, Jamie Nickel of Danville, CA from a previous marriage, a step-daughter, Lynda Person of Scottsdale, AZ and a total of 3 grandsons, Gaven, Jake and Anders. A sister, Mildred Knuths of Albany, sister, Sharon Salinas of Montana, one brother, Dick Savage of Albany and a brother, Gale Nickel of Gig Harbor, WA. Stephens Family Chapel handled the arrangements. No service is planned per his request.
