Nancy Marguerite Baptist, 83, of Grants Pass died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at her home. Baptist was born Dec. 25, 1928, in Pasadena, Calif., to Bertha and Theodore Carpenter. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in San Jose, Calif., and attended San Jose State University. For many years, she was the human resources director for Santa Clara County Goodwill Industries. In 1979, she moved to Grants Pass, where she established Nancy Baptist and Associates. Her business provided counseling, rehabilitation, occupational training and job placement services for the industrially injured. She retired in 1990 and moved to Taos, N.M., to pursue her dream of becoming a watercolorist. Her paintings are in homes around the world. In 1998, she suffered a non-debilitating stroke and returned to Grants Pass to be near family. She continued to paint, support community art, read and travel. Survivors include two daughters, Donna D. Baptist-Rao of Williams and Colette A. "Coco" Baptist of Bakersfield, Calif.; a son, Brian K. Baptist of Grants Pass; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
