Mable A. Simons, 72, of Grants Pass died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Three Rivers Community Hospital. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Stephens Family Chapel, with Ken Bern, pastor, officiating. She was born Mable Almeda Butler, March 16, 1937, in Ventura, Calif., to James and Reba Butler. On Jan. 1, 1959, in Carpinteria, Calif., she married Lawrence "Larry" Simons, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass from Carpinteria on Sept. 7, 1972. From 1973 to 1999, she worked for Litton and OTP. She was a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She enjoyed bingo, poker machines, trips to Reno, being involved with the Eagles and spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, Charles Simons of Grants Pass, James Simons of Woodburn, and Larry Simons of Palm Bay, Fla.; a daughter, Dora Churchwell of Bonnie Lake, Wash.; two sisters, Ramona Gerard of Reedsport, and Shirley Griffith of Bakersfield, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A grandson, Jason Churchwell, and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Bradshaw, died before her.
