Leon Ralph Sare

Leon, age 81, passed away at Royal Gardens in Grants Pass on Monday, December 10 , 2012. Born August 7, 1931 in Omaha, NE, to Arwilla and Ralph Sare. On March 23rd, 1957, Leon married Vee Neita Joyce King in Orange County, CA. They lived in Buena Park, CA. In 1968 they moved to the Rogue Valley to buy a farm and live in the country. He was a foreign war veteran, where he served in the United States Marines. For 3 years, he served over-seas in Korea as a prisoner chaser until 1951. He was awarded for National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal. During their first years in the Rogue Valley, Leon worked for Caveman Campers as a foreman, and then was hired at Spalding and Son lumber mill as a millwright. He retired from Spalding and worked part-time as a flat-land logger with close friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting firewood and being around his family and friends. ( And a cold Budwieser ) He was known by friends, as the "Mayor of Gene Lane"! Also, by family as "non-stop". ( He liked to talk a lot ) He would help anyone who needed a lending hand. Survivors include his wife Vee Neita Sare, children & their spouses: Lanny & Barbara Sare of Grants Pass, OR; Paula Eads of Crescent City, CA.; 2 grandchildren Joshua Sare and Melanie Spliethof, and 3 great-grandchildren RaeLynne Spliethof, Baylee Spliethof, and Tanner Sare. Leon's wish was to have a Celebration of Life in the spring with close friends and family. Arrangements by Stephens Family Chapel, Grants Pass, OR.
