Leatha Leota Kylander Evans

May 7, 1915 — February 4, 2008

Heaven received a new beautiful angel, when Leatha Leota Kylander Evans went to be with the Lord, on February 4, 2008. She was 92. Born in Pine Bluffs, Wyo., on May 7, 1915, she was the daughter of Arthur and Lulu Kylander. She had two sisters and three brothers. They were raised in Powell, Wyo. At age 17, Leatha got on a bus and arrived in Billings, Mont., at 3:00 in the morning so she could start nursing school. She graduated from St. Vincent's in 1934 and went on to have a rewarding nursing career. She was Director of Nursing at Powell Hospital for many years before moving to Grants Pass in 1973 to become Director of Nursing at Southern Oregon General Hospital. Her love of nursing and surgery brought her great joy. Her caring and loving nature touched the lives of many. For those who were fortunate enough to call her friend, knew that she was truly an angel in disguise. She had a wonderfully positive outlook on life and always said everything would be all right. Everything is all right for her now. No more pain, no more broken bones, no more memory loss. She was preceded in death by her son, Reid; and husband, of 69 years, Spencer, who died in 2005 at age 93. She is survived by her daughter, Robbie Ross; son-in-law, Phil Pifer; two grandchildren, Zann and Lance Rea; two siblings; and nieces and nephews. She had always expressed that she wanted flowers and visits before her death, not after, so to honor that request, there will be no memorial service. Her ashes will be sprinkled on the Evans' ranch in Wyoming.
