Lawrence Gilbert Burnett

Lawrence “Larry” Burnett, 62, of Grants Pass passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009 at his home in Grants Pass. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 21st, 11:00 AM at Stephens Family Chapel with Randel Livingood, Chaplin of Lovejoy Hospice officiating. Interment with Military honors will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass Friends may contribute to the Special Olympics, 676 Mountain Paradise Drive, Grants Pass, OR 97526. He was born May 13, 1947, in Alhambra, Calif., to Gilbert Worth and Geneva (Wilkinson) Burnett. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps on Sept. 20, 1965, and served in the Vietnam War. After his discharge on Nov. 21, 1966, he worked for a heating and air-conditioning company in California. In the early 1980s he moved to Jackson and drove a cab before running the Outlaw Motel. In 1991 he moved to Cheyenne and worked for Dale Electric, Sunnyside Storage and Lowe's Regional Distribution Center. He married Janet Lynn Cochran on Feb. 14, 1992, in Jackson. He retired in 2007 and moved to Grants Pass in 2008. They were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cheyenne. Mr. Burnett enjoyed fishing, music, guitars and keyboards, woodworking, nature, the outdoors and birds. He is survived by his wife, Janet Burnett of Grants Pass; son, Justin Burnett of Grants Pass; stepdaughters, Dawn Malone of Perris, Calif., and Shonya Groenewald of Glenrock; sisters, Linda Burnett of El Mirage, Ariz. and Kimberly Tucker of Tujunga, Calif.; two grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Worth and Geneva Burnett.
