Karen Merchant, 63 of Grants Pass died Saturday, September 16, 2006 at her home after a 13 é½ year battle with Breast Cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at 3:00 PM Calvary Lutheran Church with Pastor Cyril Hunkler officiating. Karen was born on April 2, 1943 in Chehalis, Washington to Harry & Millie Carlson. In 1957 at the age of 14 she met her future husband Jerrold Merchant at a Boy Scout progressive dinner; she married Jerrold on December 19, 1964 in Centralia, Washington. In 1969 she graduated for the University of Southern California with a masters degree. From 1969 until 1979 she worked for Southern Oregon College as a PE and Dance Instructor. From 1981 until 1991 she worked for Lutheran Brotherhood Financial Services as a district representative. Karen was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Grants Pass. Karen was an avid motorcycle rider for the past 13 years, accumulating over 17,000 miles on her Ducati 900 Monster motorcycle. She also loved spending time at the log cabin she designed on Agency Lake in Klamath County. Her grandson Gabriel and her family was the center of her life. Survivors include her husband Jerrold of Grants Pass; daughter Heather Adams of Medford; son Jarrod Merchant of Central Point; and Grandson Gabriel Adams of Medford.
