Helen A. Stephens

Helen A. Stephens passed away Sunday, March 9th 2014 in Springfield, Oregon. Helen was born October 11, 1921 in Miller, South Dakota to Ray and Blanche (Hilliard) Carr, the 3rd of 9 children. The Carr family moved west when Helen was 14 yrs old settling in Arlington, California where Helen completed her education at LaSierra Academy in 1939. The family later moved to Aurora, Oregon in 1943, and she worked as a private caregiver. She and her son Larry moved to Coquille, Oregon in 1947 to work at an area nursing home. While attending church in Coos Bay she met Ray Stephens and they married in 1948 uniting her and her son Larry Webb (Springfield, OR), with Ray and his daughter Carol Morse (Keni, Alaska). Together they had 3 children, Phil Stephens (Grants Pass, OR), Nick Stephens (North Bend, OR) and Cheryl Moreno (Veneta, OR). The Stephens family lived in North Bend until Ray went to his rest in 1981. Helen moved to Grants Pass and worked at Highland House Nursing Center until her retirement at age of 80. Throughout her life she enjoyed giving Bible studies, bringing many to the Lord. She enjoys attending church and spending time with family which include her 3 remaining siblings, Clifford Carr (Aurora, OR), Kenneth Carr (Wilsonville, OR) and Carol Young (Casa Grande,AZ). Helen also enjoys reading, jigsaw puzzles, embroidery and watching her 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren grow.
