Harold Eugene Reardon Jr., 68, of Merlin died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Three Rivers Community Hospital. Private family services have been held. He was born Dec. 11, 1941, United States Naval Hospital in Charleston, S.C., to Harold Eugene Reardon and Ethel Rait Reardon. In 1959, he graduated from Eureka High School in Eureka, Calif. After graduating, he served in the Navy during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on Feb. 12, 1965. After his military service, he began a career in real estate â" logging and developing. On Feb. 8, 1964, in Carson City, Nev., he married Diana Southern, who survives him. They moved to Grants Pass in 1997 from Reno. He was a member and former trustee of the Elks Lodge in Eureka. From 1977 to 1980, he served on the Eureka City Council. He enjoyed wildlife and he raised cougars for many years. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and politics. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Bryon Reardon of Eureka, Calif.; a daughter, Brenda Petzoldt of Grants Pass; and two granddaughters.
