On October 12, 2013 Gloria Childress Jackson quietly left this earth to go home to her heavenly Father. Gloria Jean Childress was born in Greenville, Mississippi at Kings Daughters Hospital on October 17, 1940 to Lee Allen and Searphim Childress. She was the youngest of three children. She was taken home to Rolling Fork, Mississippi to meet her older sister Catherine Elizabeth and her big brother Richard Lee. She attended an all girl Catholic school. Upon her graduation from high school, the family moved from Mississippi to San Diego, California where Seraphim's sister lived. Gloria got a job as a teller at Silver Gate Savings and Loan. Being ever the social bug, she quickly became acquainted with many people. Some of these friends introduced her to a handsome young sailor. That man was Richard Jackson. One day as she was walking down the street, a bright red convertible pulled over to the curb. Inside was Richard, his buddy and the buddy's girlfriend. Even though she hated red cars and detested convertibles, she got in. That was their very first date of many. They dated for three years and on October 28, 1961 they were married. That union lasted over 51 years. Richard remained in the Navy so there were many times when he was at sea. Gloria and other Navy wives supported each other and many life-long friendships bloomed. On July 22, 1964, Richard Dean Jackson II was born and on December 14, 1966 Ron Anthony Jackson joined the family. During Richard's service career the family resided in Southern California. They were also stationed in Spain and England. While overseas, they enjoyed the experience of seeing many other areas in Europe. Gloria and Richard formed a deep friendship with two of their son Rich's friends, Amir Moussavian and Manssour Moussavian. These two wonderful "boys" became Richard and Glo's godsons. Amir and Manssour have remained very dear throughout the rest of their lives. Richard and Gloria decided to leave San Diego and moved to Grants Pass where they have resided for over 27 years. Being a joiner, Glo jumped right into life in Grants Pass. She joined a bowling league for 2 years, was a member of the Colonial Valley Ladies Club, was secretary of the Colonial Valley Homeowner's Association for several years, a member of Past Time Pleasures and became an excellent golfer with the Colonial Valley Women's Golf Club. She also loved to go to Seven Feathers. Gloria developed close friendships throughout her life. She leaves behind her godsons, Amir and Manssour; dear friends Beverly Gibbs, Carole Wareing, Ann Covington, Teresa Ackerman, Jean Marie Robertson, Debbie Becker and Brian and Donna Robinson. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Gloria was preceded in death by her devoted husband Richard, her sons, her parents and her sister and brother. At Gloria's request, no service will be held. Arrangements were made by Stephens Family Chapel. Rest in peace Glo-- you will be missed by all of us here but you are at last reunited with all your loved ones. God bless you. we will always love you.
