Gene Venekamp

Gene Venekamp, 78 of Grants Pass passed away Thursday August 29, 2013, 2013 at his residence. Memorial Services were held Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grants Pass. Gene was born on February 7, 1935 in Gaza, Iowa to Herman and Henrietta Venekamp. Gene graduated from Ruthton High School in Ruthton, Minnesota. After high school he served in the United States Army from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1959. On October 17, 1959 he married Sandra Faye Rutzen in Tyler, Minnesota. They moved to Grants Pass in 1960 from Tyler, Minnesota. Gene worked most of his life as a contractor building homes in the Rogue Valley. Gene worked with Habitat for Humanity for several years. He enjoyed woodworking & gardening. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. In addition to his wife survivors include three children, Mark Venekamp and Micah, Venekamp of Grants Pass and Melanie Allen of Dear Park, WA; brother Duane Venekamp of Medford, OR; three sisters, Verla Gruis of South Dakota, Beva Vos of Minnesota and Fern Laingen of Minnesota; three grandchildren. His parents, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
