Ernestine L. Hoefer, 78, of Grants Pass passed away Sunday, August 2, 2009 at her home. Private Family Services have been held Contributions in lieu of flowers: International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Drive, Ste 206, North Hollywood, CA 91607 Erne was born Ernestine Louise Modesitt on June 4, 1931 in Terra Haute, Indiana to James and Mabel Modesitt. She attended schools at Fontana Elementary and Chaffey High School in California. Erne married Gordon Reid Hoefer on August 15, 1948 in Fontana, California. During her life she managed Artist Stores at Padua Hills Theater in Claremont, California. Erne was proprietor of the Smokey Bear Museum in Gardiner, MT and worked in gift shops at Yellowstone National Park. They moved to Grants Pass from Gardiner, Montana in 2008. She was a member and Queen Mother of the Buffalo Girls Red Hat Society of Gardiner, MT. Erne enjoyed hand weaving. In addition to her husband of 60 years, survivors include daughter, Crystal Zimmer of Grants Pass; son Charles Hoefer of Vista, CA; sister, Doris Sharp of Fallbrook, CA; two brothers, Robert Modesitt of Santa Clara, CA and James Modesitt of Lebanon, OR; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Reid Hoefer and three siblings, Pauline, Lucille and Buster.
