Ellen Starr, 73, of Grants Pass went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on February 6, 2019.
The eldest of 3, Ellen was born December 27, 1945 in Chicago, Il to David and Libbi Starr. The family moved to the Los Angeles, CA area 3 months later.
Ellen was a lover of Jesus Christ and an avid proponent of fitness. She was active in sports and dance as a child. She participated in plays in High School and college. She studied acting and flamenco dance. She had a number of different jobs in Los Angeles, the last working for the Crones and Colitis Foundation. She taught aerobic classes for Richard Simmons, developing innovative methods of enhancing muscle tone.
She moved to Grants Pass in 1991 and worked as a claims adjuster while teaching fitness classes at Club NW. She developed a love of hiking and also liked to walk through Grants Pass, often picking up trash in the process. Ellen was very compassionate and picked up on the struggles of others offering prayer, encouragement and support. She served in the children's ministry of the churches she attended and was known throughout the Valley for her chocolate chip cookies.
She is survived her mother, Libbi, two sisters, Rhonda and Linda, one nephew, Matthew, and 5 great nieces.
She was preceded in death by her father, David and various aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, Ellen had requested that contributions be made to The ALS Association, 700 NE Multnomah St., Suite 210, Portland, OR 97232.
