Edwin E. Pollock

November 3, 1935 — November 25, 2007

Eddy Pollock was born in Denver, Colorado and moved to California in 1948. His interest in electronics started at the age of 12 and by age 15 he obtained his first amateur radio license. In 1970 he obtained his amateur extra class license, W6LC. He enjoyed ham radio for nearly 60 years. Eddy̢۪s formal education included a BA and Master̢۪s Degree from Long Beach State University in electronics and industrial education. He completed graduate work for his Administrative Credential and three other life-time credentials at USC, UCLA, Stanford, and University of California. In 1989 Eddy retired from Cabrillo College in Aptos, California after nearly 30 years teaching electronics technology, computer science, and industrial education. Two of his teaching years included elementary, junior high, and senior high school. He joined the Monte Vista Christian School staff in Watsonville, California, in 1981 as the part-time Director of Computer Science and Electronics/Communications. He loved working with the staff and students there for several years. His college and university teaching included Cabrillo Community College, Stanford University, and San Jose State University. Eddy̢۪s Navy career included 9 years enlisted duty, and 12 years commissioned service. He was also a Navy instructor school graduate and taught electronics and communications in both Reserve and Active Duty, as he worked his way up from Seaman to retired Lieutenant Commander in 1974. His special assignments in the Navy took him to the Mediterranean, Africa, and Europe. In February 1990 Eddy was honored to be selected as Manager/Chief Operator of W1AW, the American Radio Relay League headquarters in Newington, Connecticut. This was his dream job but it ended with a 1991 retirement due to a viral heart infection. He and his wife, Marilyn, moved back to Santa Cruz County, California at that time. Eddy was a member of Twin Lakes Baptist Church, and Santa Cruz Bible Church in California; and Parkway Christian Center in Grants Pass, Oregon. His family and friends have always known Eddy as outgoing, friendly, and full of jokes and puns. His interests throughout his life included ham radio, shortwave listening, scanning, chess, model railroading, and motorhome traveling. In his younger years he loved to play tennis and baseball. Most of all, Eddy loved his family. He and his wife, Marilyn, moved to Grants Pass, Oregon in 2000. He died peacefully at Highland House in Grants Pass on November 25, 2007 after a long battle with cardiomyopathy and diabetes. His family and friends will miss his energy, enthusiasm, and great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of 47 years; son, David Pollock and daughter-in-law, Cindy Wright of Grants Pass; daughter, Deanna (Dee) Evans of Clovis, California; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 30, 2007 at Stephens Family Chapel in Grants Pass, followed by a graveside service at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m. Reception immediately following at Spring Meadow Retirement Community. Contributions may be made to Parkway Christian Center or Asante Hospice.
