In Baldwin Park, he was known as "Dale". In 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Esther James and relocated to Corona, CA. He had a son, Patrick, and daughter, Leslie. He and Esther divorced in 1984. Ed married Susan Marie McDougall-Thompson and raised Faith, Susan's daughter by a previous marriage. Ed and Sue retired to Grants Pass OR in 2004 after falling in love with the community and Rogue River. Many knew Ed as a retired Deputy Chief of the Corona Police Dept. (23 yrs), a retired Manager of Tele-Communications from Saddleback Memorial Hospital, Laguna Hills (17 yrs), a Past Master Mason of Temescal Palms Masonic Lodge, and a two-time past Worthy Patron of Crown Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Others knew him as "Dale", a graduate of Baldwin Park High School, Redlands University, and the FBI Academy. He was a member of the Cal Rods car club, past president of the Lions Club International, United Way Board of Directors member, an avid fisherman, estate & garage saler extraordinaire, and as a devoted husband, son, father, and friend. Ed loved the Lord, his family and friends; he was an eternal prankster and creative funny man with dry quick wit and an amazing collection of funny hats, as well as an eternal optimist. A chosen few know him as Honey, dad, grandpa, brother, or son, and the ultimate example of faith, integrity, strength, patriotism, optimism, and acceptance of the Lord's plan. However you have known Ed, you know you will never forget him, as he has touched so many. Ed is survived by: Susan, his devoted wife of 28 yrs, son Patrick Sampson of Santa Ana, CA, daughters Leslie Cox of Riverside CA and Faith Sampson of Tustin CA; mother Juanita Sampson of Mesa, AZ, brother & sister-in-law John & Sally Sampson of Hacienda Heights CA; four wonderful grandchildren Johnathon Servin, Daniel and Joshua Sampson, and Michaela Cox and several nieces and nephews.
