Former Grants Pass resident Edward Esquivel, 46, of Yreka, Calif., died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, in Grants Pass of a heart attack. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stephens Family Chapel. Esquivel was born March 27, 1961, in Santa Maria, Calif., and he was raised in the Santa Barbara, Calif., and Lompoc, Calif., areas. He served in the Army as an artillery specialist. In 1990, he moved to Grants Pass. He recently moved to Yreka. He worked as a tree trimmer for Trees Inc. and Asplundh Trees. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 659. He enjoyed the Southern Oregon and northern California areas and outdoor activities. In addition to his wife, Cheryl Esquivel, survivors include his mother, Mary Mendoza of Grants Pass; his stepfather, Robert Baca of Grants Pass; his father, Gabriel Salgado of Mexico; three sisters, Viola Torres of Grants Pass, Gloria Esquivel of Santa Maria, Calif., and Irma Guzman of Texas; several brothers and sisters in Mexico; and his grandmother, Gloria Mendoza of Grants Pass. A son, Gabriel, died in 2004.
