Doris Marie Dewey

Doris Marie Dewey, 87, of Grants Pass died Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 31st, 2:00 PM at Newman United Methodist Church. She was born November 14, 1924 in Illinois to Clifford Black and Agness Crandall. The family later moved to Los Angeles, California. On November 14, 1942 in Las Vegas she married Robert Dewey who preceded her in death. After her husband was discharged from the Army in 1946 they moved to Grants Pass where they raised three children. Upon graduating from Southern Oregon College in 1968 with an Elementary Education Degree, she taught for 20 years for Grants Pass School District 7. During this time they became members of the Charlie Brown Square Dance Club. She loved to grow different varieties of sunflowers, mini and giant pumpkins and tomatoes. She was an active member of Newman United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Educators, past Girl Scout leader and community volunteer. Survivors include tow children, Jeanette Dewey of Grants Pass and Larry Dewey of Portland, Oregon; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to her husband one son Robert W. Dewey preceded her in death in 2006.
