Donald Clyde Beaubien, 82, of Grants Pass, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at his home in Grants Pass. Private Interment will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery on June 23, 2011. Celebration of life will be held on the afternoon of June 23 at a place and time to be announced later. Donald Clyde Beaubien was born in Milan, Michigan on March 12, 1929. He was the second son of Otto Beaubien and Pearl (Beaubien) Meyers. AS a young child, the family moved to Tecumseh, MI where Donald grew up and graduated from Tecumseh High School. Upon graduation he was employed as meat cutter at Oliver's Market and Kroger Grocery store in Tecumseh. In March of 1948 Donald enlisted in the United States Navy where he served 25 years until his retirement in May of 1973. He experienced a wide range of assignments working supply and logistics; and there was a career plan change when he worked on and taught electronics systems. In the early 1960's he was trained and worked in the Navy Nuclear Reactor Program. December of 1962 was a very eventful as he was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy and a few days later he married the love of his life, Virginia Magini. They had an interesting career with assignments in Newport, RI; Great Lakes, Illinois; Ville France, France (Two Years); and in the Panama Canal Zone (Over Three Years). Interspersed in these assignments he served as an Electronics Officer on the aircraft carrier USS independence and Electronics Officer on a cruiser, the USS Springfield. During these assignments, Don and Virginia had three daughters, Susan (Blumling) born in Great Lakes, IL; Anique (Cummings) born in Nice, France; Annette (Nowling) born in Great Lake, IL. After retirement from the Navy he attended Southern Oregon College (University) graduating Summa cum Laude with degrees in Political Science and Education and a Masters Degree in Education. HE taught for 14 years at Hidden Valley High School, retiring in 1991. Don leaves behind his wife, Virginia in Grants Pass; his daughter Susan Blumling (Mark) in Oceanside, CA; his daughter Anique Cummings (Tim) in Grants Pass; his daughter Annette Nowling (Dave) of Augusta, GA. He and Virginia have nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Beaubien; his mother, Pearl (Beaubien) Meyers; and his brother Richard Beaubien.
