Don Shinkle

January 6, 1918 — May 16, 2007

Don S. Shinkle, 89, of Grants Pass, Oregon died in his home from kidney failure, Wednesday, May 16, 2007. A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, May 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the Stephens Family Chapel, with Rev. Charles Chase of the Wilderville United Methodist Church officiating. Interment and full military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. He was born January 6, 1918, in Hartley, Iowa. He married Edna Shikany in Oakland, 1939. He was a fireman in Richmond, California. He was inducted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a 60- year member of the American Legion, and a Life member of the NRA. He was a long-time member of the Order of Masons and the Algeria Shriners of Montana. He married Sandie Brown in Libby, Montana in 1992 where they enjoyed an exciting life of fishing, big game hunting, and raising farm animals. They moved to Grants Pass in 2000. He is survived by his wife, sons Jerry and Byron Shinkle, daughter Nancy Higgins, stepson Geno Hardin, a brother Lyle, a sister Reva, eleven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
