David Pylant, 59, of Grants Pass died Monday, June 9, 2008, at his home. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:30 July 12 at the Centennial Gazebo in Riverside Park. He was born Nov. 18, 1948, in Midland, Texas, to Laura and Thurman Pylant. He graduated from Lee High School in Midland and attended West Texas State University and Chenard Art School in Los Angeles. He married Amanda Ewing, who survives. They moved to the Grants Pass area in 1974. In 1978, he followed his father's trade and started a sign and silkscreen business. He moved his business from Wonder to Grants Pass in 1999. During the final years of his business, he became known as the "Tulip Man," as he painted more than 10,000 tulips on Dutch Bros. stands. He was a musician and he used his music in many ministries over the years. He led the worship team at Jerome Prairie Bible Church and made several work trips to the Navajo mission in Arizona through his church.
