Daniel Patrick Hayes, 69, of Grants Pass, Oregon died Saturday, April 21, 2018 at home. He was born on May 15, 1948, In Lindsay, California to Patrick and Patricia Hayes. He graduated from Porterville High School in 1966 and went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree and teaching credential from California State University, Fresno. In 1969, he married Judy Baird and was blessed with three children. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972 as freight loadmaster on the C-130 cargo planes. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1971. They moved to Grants Pass in 1994 where he taught vocational classes such as metals, construction, and computer hardware at Rogue River High School until he retired in 2011. He loved teaching and started the annual chili cook-off and car show at the high school and brought his students to many SkillsUSA competitions, as well as the Builders Olympics every year at the Josephine County Fairgrounds. Survivors include his mother Patricia Hayes; wife, Judy Hayes; a son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Kara Hayes; a daughter, Melissa Hayes; a son, Cory Hayes; and three grandchildren, Waylon, Marin, and Chloe. He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick Hayes and his sister, Colleen May. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., at the Wild River Pub, 533 NE "F" St., Grants Pass, OR.
