Daniel Jay Clemons

Daniel Jay Clemons, age 71, passed away suddenly at his home on Friday, May 12th. He was born in Portland, Oregon to Clinton Wayne and Norma Rosalee Clemons on February 13, 1946. He has lived in Roseburg and Salem Oregon, Flint, Michigan, San Diego, California and for the last 10 years in Grants Pass. After graduating from Roseburg High School in 1964 he was a DJ at KYES in Roseburg. He moved his family to Flint, Michigan in 1967 and found a home at the local radio station WTRX for several years. In 1976 he joined Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co, transferring to the San Diego office in 1986. He started Retirement Planning Resources in 1991 and sold that practice in 2006 when he retired. Dan's favorite pastimes were flying his airplane locally and an occasional cross-country, riding his Honda Forza scooter around the back roads of Grants Pass, collecting aviation memorabilia, teaching 10 years of high school seniors at Roseburg and North Valley High Schools how to manage their own money, nurturing the redwood trees he planted around his home, writing "Manage your Own Money" and "The Northwest Migration" which is a collection of biographies of many family ancestors and living members, hosting family reunions, connecting with friends, and researching various topics of interest. He was always up to something. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Surviving him are his daughters, Corina (Byron) Miller of Portland, Mary Ann (Nic) Hawken of Tigard, half-sisters Connie (Al) Scevers of Sutherlin, and Shelly Curtis of Tuscon, AZ, grandchildren, Amber and Matthew Shively and Ben and Gavin Hawken, and nieces, nephews and many cousins scattered throughout Oregon and Washington. Visitation will be at Stephens Family Chapel on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 9 to 10:30 am. A Funeral service will begin at 11am. Private burial will take place at Roseburg Memorial Gardens in Roseburg, Oregon. Dan felt strongly about helping innocent animals. Donations can be made in his memory to Wild Life Images, Rogue Valley Humane Society or Josephine County Animal Control all in Grants Pass or Best Friends Animal Society at bestfriends.org.
