Cecile Florence Ramsey

Cecile Florence Ramsey 81, of Grants Pass passed away Wednesday October 7th, 2009 at her home with her children by her side. A celebration of her life will be held Monday October 12th at 2:pm. at Stephens Family Chapel. Contributions may be made to Lovejoy Hospice, 939 S.E. 8th St. Grants Pass, Oregon. Cecile was born Feb. 24th 1928 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Harriet and Austin Moffat Barkwell. She attended Grovers Elementary, Robert H. Smith middle school and St. Mary's Academy in Winnipeg. She worked as a cashier at local theatres and as a clerk at Bairds Drug store where she met and married William Alexander Kenner. She then worked at the T. Eaton Co. until the birth of the first of their three children. She then became a home maker. They moved to Southern California when shortly after William passed away. She later married Harold Daniel Mitchell and moved to Norwalk California and they had two children. They enjoyed taking long vacations with their five children throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In 1973 the family moved to Grants Pass, Oregon where Harold passed away in 1980. She then worked at the Galice store, Pete and Gene's restaurant and the hideaway restaurant in Merlin, Oregon where she then married Wilbur Arnold "Arnie" Ramsey in Richmond, B.C. Canada on August 24th 1984. Together they enjoyed working on their home, gardening and a wonderful train trip across Canada. Arnie passed away March 16th 2009. Cecile loved talking with her children, grandchildren and Playing with her great grandchildren in the backyard of her home. She enjoyed camping, fishing, scrapbooking, home decorating, gardening, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, shopping, dining out and going to the movies. She also enjoyed visiting with her friends and family gatherings. Most recently a trip to Birch Bay Washington in June for a family reunion in her honor, and of course Sunday dinners at home with her family. Survivors include four daughters, Linda Yates and husband Richard of Scappoose, Oregon. Leslie Bolan and husband Patrick, Victoria Poague and husband Kenny, Dani Smith and a son Tim Mitchell and wife Tracy, all of Grants pass, Oregon. Twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren whom she loved dearly along with three sisters, Bee Connell of Seal Beach, California. Pat Howe, Vancouver, B.C., and Vicki and husband Al Carswell of Surrey, B.C. Canada. And her very dear friends Carl and Randi Lenhart, Harriet Johnson, Kay Harkless, Leona Richter, and Nancy Brown. Along with her three husbands she was preceded in death by her parents Austin and Harriet Barkwell infant sister Doris Barkwell sisters Peggy Molloy, Joan Gleeson and brothers Fred, Ted, Bill and George Barkwell all of Canada. And one Grandson David Brian Mitchell 12-16-1999.
