Catherine Haynes, 73, of Grants Pass passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at her home in Grants Pass. Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, January 5th 2:00 PM at Edge Water Christian Fellowship in Grants Pass 101 Assembly Drive in Grants Pass. Pastor Mark Skudstad officiating. Private Interment has been held on December 23rd at Eagle Point National Cemetery. She was born on December 14, 1938 in a cabin along the banks of Snake Lake in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska where her father fished in the summer and hunted and trapped in the winter to sustain his family. When she was nine her father decided it was time for her to attend school. They moved to Nushagak a small village of six families on top of a hill with a schoolhouse and a Russian Orthodox Church. She learned to speak English. In about 1959 she graduated from Mt. Edgecombe High School in Edgecombe, Alaska. A year or two later she moved to San Francisco where she attended a beauty school. She married Paul Adams a career Navy Electronics Technician. They had two boys and the Navy moved them to San Diego, California. She then began working for the San Diego School District as a Second grade teacher's assistant and a tour guide to visiting 5th graders. She eventually became a single mom and she took on work as a clerk / typist/ receptionist for various government agencies and businesses. She attended sewing classes and became an accomplished with her bernina machine. Cathy was a little league mom and became an avid San Diego Padres and Chargers fan. While bowling at a bowling ally she met Dave Haynes, they married on October 3, 1982 so she added motorcycle riding and camping to her list of activities and also eating out she enjoyed doing. Cathy put her marriage on a firm footing by first suggesting church attendance and they began to participate at Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego, California. Upon Dave's retirement they moved to Grants Pass, July 4, 1994 where her son Kenneth lived. She had several short-term jobs in Grants Pass one of which enabled her to grace the front page of the July 4th edition of the Daily Courier when she raised the flag on the Rogue Gold Cheese building where she clerked. She taught Sunday School at Calvary Church and Applegate Christian Fellowship. On May 22, 2005 of the way to work at Galicia Resort she experienced a crippling stroke that ended all driving and employment possibilities. Subsequently she suffered a pulmonary embolism, gall bladder removal, breast, stomach and ovarian cancers with accompanying surgeries and a broken wrist from a fall last spring. Cathy attended Edgewater Christian Fellowship. In addition to her husband David Haynes of Grants Pass survivors include two sons Kenneth Adams of Fair Hope, AL and Leon Adams of Grants Pass; sister Sassa Unrein of Seward, AK, brother Jeff Moxie of Aleknagik, AK and Sister Irene Moxie of Egegik, AK; Seven Grandchildren.
