Calvin Charles Perkins

Calvin C. Perkins, 82, passed away at Three Rivers Hospital on November 4, 2012. He was born in Elgin Illinois on November 8, 1929, to Sydney L. and Myrtle E. (nee Dahlstrom) Perkins. In 1947 he graduated Elgin High School where he lettered in track, football, and participated in student government. He attended DePauw University and the U of Illinois where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and had many varied experiences, including B-26 navigator-bombardier in Korea; special weapons instructor; installation, testing, and support of the Atlas missile system; testing and support of the first Dept. of Defense automated digital communication network; and a tour with the USAF Inspector General. While in the Air force he earned a BSEE degree from the AF Institute of Technology, and a MSEE degree from the University of Southern California. He retired in 1971 and moved to Wilderville Oregon where he worked in the Josephine County Assessors Office, retiring as Chief Appraiser in 1989. On July 31, 1954 he married Patricia Lewis in Richmond Virginia. Cal enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, outdoor activities in the woods, and traveling. Survivors include his wife, son Charles and his wife Therese of Beaverton OR, son John and his wife Julie of Portland OR, and five grand children (Jeremy, Amanda, Connor, Justin, and Logan). His brother Wendell preceded Cal in death. Private services were held and his ashes scattered in his beloved woodland.
