Bill Rayburn

Wilbur “Bill” Paul Rayburn, 72, of Grants Pass died January 7, 2010, at his home in Grants Pass. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. He was born on November 18, 1937 in Spokane, Washington to Alfred and Alma Rayburn. Bill married Gayle Lucille Hadsell on August 18, 1957 in Grants Pass. He worked for many years in local plywood mills. He worked at Custom Plywood for five or six years before he left to go work for Boise Cascade in 1962 He fed core for them for another six years until he got tired of commuting back and forth to Medford. One day on his way back he stopped in at VanPly Inc. and asked for a job. That following evening he started making plywood with a new crew. Bill worked for VanPly Inc. as a spreader man for twenty years until he stepped down due to problems with his arm. He then became a crew member on the old edge gluer and then operated the strip saw. Finally he finished up working as a veneer grader retiring in 1998. Bill was a member of Calvary Chapel in Grants Pass. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife survivors include four children, Robbie Lastair, Sonja Spliethof, Todd Rayburn and Krystal Lambert; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
