Charles "Bill" Newman, 67, of Grants Pass died Dec. 18, 2007, at Three Rivers Community Hospital. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Crossroads Church. A bowling party will follow at 1 p.m. at Caveman Bowl. He was born Nov. 27, 1940, in Grants Pass to Claude and Hazel Newman. In 1960, he graduated from Grants Pass High School. For more than 20 years, he worked at the Ray's Market on Williams Highway. He also was a volunteer firefighter. He was a member of Calvary Crossroads Church, where he assisted with Awana Children's Ministries. He enjoyed bowling and playing softball. He was a bowling coach and participated in bowling leagues. He also enjoyed sports, especially high school sports, and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include a son, Travis Newman of Grants Pass; a daughter, Amanda Fly of Grants Pass; three sisters, Mary Kinney of Talent, Zoerene Stormes of Grants Pass, and Roberta Mitchell of White City; four brothers, Byron "Hap" Newman of Rochester, Wash., Sherman Newman of Grants Pass, Milo Newman of Portland, and Ole Newman of Brookings; and six grandchildren.
