Bernard âBernieâ Bem, 74, of Rogue River passed away, August 27, 2010 at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. Private interment will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery. He was born on June 21, 1936 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Bernard and Mathilda Bem. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 until 1956. He moved to Oregon from Belmont, California in 1991. Bernie enjoyed fishing, woodworking, cooking (noted for his famous apple cakes), helping others and following his grandchildrenâs sports. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He is survived by his loving partner of 27 years Barbara Freitas; 4 daughters, 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 5 brothers and 1 sister He was preceded in death by his son and brother.
