Berdine Krenek, formerly of Grants Pass, passed away January 25, 2010 at Willow House, in Phoenix, Oregon. At her request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in her memory. She was born in Portland, Oregon. Her parents Guy William and Emma Steele along with her sisters Amanda, Evelyn and brother Raymond moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, where her youngest sister, Ethyl, was born. Berdine graduated from Grants Pass High School. She worked at U.S. Bank before marrying William Krenek, while he was home on leave during World War II. He preceded her in death. She then worked at First Federal Savings & Loan, which is now Evergreen Federal Bank. She worked there 37 years and upon retirement Evergreen honored her by naming a scholarship fund after her. High school seniors, from five high schools in the area, are recipients of this scholarship each year. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was one of the youngest members to attend, at age 12, when it was held in a private home, before the church on 5th street was built. She is survived by a daughter, Jeri Krenek and granddaughter, Cindee McCurdy, both of Ashland, Oregon.
