Barbara Jean Behrens

Barbara Jean Behrens, 74, of Grants Pass died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at her home after a battle with dementia. A gathering will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at River Valley Community Church. Stephens Family Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Behrens was born Jan. 3, 1938, in Salem to Arthur and Esther Peters. She graduated from North Salem High School and earned a degree from the Advanced School for Doctor's Office Assistants. After graduating, she worked in Salem as an assistant for two doctors and later as director of two "welcome to our town" organizations in Eugene and Salem. In June 1961, she married Norman L. Behrens, who survives. Upon moving to Bend, she worked 19 years as an office secretary in the Bend-La Pine School District. She enjoyed being involved with several church boards and committees, mission trips, sewing, fishing and playing games. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her husband, survivors include three children, Steven L. and Wayne N. Behrens and Cynthia J. Hammer; and six grandchildren. A brother, Daryl, died before her.
