Avis Rhoades

Avis Rhoades, 78, of Grants Pass died September 23, 2008 at Royal Gardens. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Royal Gardens in the Rose Garden. Avis was born on June 3, 1930 in Valentine, Nebraska. She had one brother named Guy Bailey, Jr. When she was four years old when the house that she lived in burned down and her family moved to Rosebud, South Dakota. Her father Guy Bailey, Sr. was a cattle rancher and her mother Leta taught school and after that ran the local grocery store. Avis grew up loving tennis, swimming, dancing, playing the piano and organ. She graduated from High School a Val Victorian and went onto the University of South Dakota where she was majoring in Business. She was the President of her sorority Alpha Z Delta. She met Daniel Jay Rhoades and was married in Sioux City, Iowa on November 3, 1950. They had three children, Danny, Connie, and Cindy. Around eight years later they moved to Fremont, California where she worked at Lockheed, Intl. She worked there form 1958 to 1962 as a technical writer. Their daughter Connie passed away from a car accident in March of 1965. In 1965 she became ill with a stroke and divorced shortly there after. She lived on her own in Fremont, Ca until July 2001 when she moved to Grants Pass and lived at The Bridge Assistant living. In January 2004, she moved into Royal Gardens due to an illness of her original stroke. She was survived by her Brother Guy Bailey, Jr.and his wife Joyce Bailey, cousin Wanda Olsen, cousin Greg Ripke, son Danny Rhoades, daughter Cindy Ogier, grandson Ian and his girlfriend Kyndale, granddaughter Vanessa, and great-grandson Reed. Avis, along with her great sense of humor and smile; you will be missed by all of your family and friends. I would like to give a special thanks to the loving team at Royal Gardens not only for the great care she received but the love they gave my mom. They were true gifts of love for her when she needed it most. You touched so many lives with your great smile and sense of humor, we will truly miss you mom and now you can be at peace.
