Allison C. "Jack" Cooley, 85, of Grants Pass died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at his home at Spring Village. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9 to 10:45 a.m. at Stephens Family Chapel. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at Eagle Point National Cemetery. He was born July 13, 1925, in Oakland, Calif., to McCabe and Marie Cooley. On March 30, 1943, he joined the Marine Corps and served during World War II until his honorable discharge on Nov. 17, 1945. For 40 years, he worked in the grocery business for Safeway and Alpha Beta grocery stores. On Aug. 15, 1961, in Carson City, Nev., he married Joan Aileen Hays, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in September 1989 from Huntington Beach, Calif. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Huntington Beach. He also was a member of the Marine Corps League and past commandant. He enjoyed the outdoors, working in his yard and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, survivors include five children, Susan Langford and Rick Young, both of Grants Pass, Michael Cooley and Jackie Johnson, both of McKinleyville, Calif., and Lonnie Cooley of Long Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
