Alan Main, 62, of Grants Pass, moved to Heaven Sunday, February 13th, 2011. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday February 19th at 3PM at the Ruch Community Church in Ruch, OR. Alan was born to Donald and Bernice (Hackworth) Main on July 29, 1948 in Twin Falls, Idaho. They moved to the Jacksonville area when he was about 6 years old. He attended local schools through the 7th grade and graduated from New Hope Christian School in 1966. After one year at Multnomah School of the Bible, he entered Southern Oregon University to further his education. On October 21, 1967, he married his high school sweetheart Cheryl Janine Stone. Only being married 7 months, Alan was drafted into the Army and sent to serve in the Vietnam War. After basic training, he and his new bride were transferred to Augsburg Germany and completed his serve time there. They immediately returned to the Southern Oregon area and had their first child, Greg, in August of 1970. Returning to SOU, he achieved his Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1975. Being a teacher at heart, educating became his way of life for the next 33 years. Alan was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman, but always put God first place in his life, and family next. He spent most of his life loving the Lord and teaching people to trust in the love that God has for them. He believed it with all his heart and wasn't shy in what he believed. Even in the last hours, he was certain he was headed to heaven to be with his family and his Savior. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Gale in 2000 and his mother, Bernice Olive in 2002. Survivors include his wife Cheryl (of 43 years), his sons, Greg (and family), Luke (and family), Josh (and family), Howard (and family), David Jay (and family), Tom and daughter Misty (and family). Sisters, Peggy (and family), Donna (and family), eighteen grandchildren and many other family and friends. Alan was a devoted husband, loving father and brother, a person of integrity, excellent hunter, gifted writer and now is in the presence of the God he loves.
